My Delhi takes the top prize at the curry awards
The Clayton Street restaurant was named Champion of Champions at the 2026 Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards.

Newcastle's My Delhi has won Champion of Champions at the 2026 Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards, Chronicle Live reports. It's the top honour of the night at awards often called the curry Oscars.
How it won - More than 1,250 businesses were nominated across the country - My Delhi was first named North East Restaurant of the Year - It then took the Champion of Champions trophy, picked from the regional winners nationwide
The Clayton Street restaurant is one of the busiest in the city centre and has picked up national recognition before. Chronicle Live readers also voted it the best Indian in the region last year.
In a post on social media, the team said the win still hadn't sunk in, called it their biggest achievement yet and thanked their teams, partners, suppliers and guests. They signed off with a shout-out to the region.
Worth knowing: Chronicle Live is about to reveal its readers' top 10 places for a curry in the North East, so expect a few more names to add to the list. If you haven't booked My Delhi yet, the weekend after a national win is not the quietest time to try.
