Marston's expects to beat full-year profit forecasts as Grandstand conversions accelerate

Profit before tax excluding one-offs for the year to 26 September is guided above the top of market expectations, with profits more than three times FY2023 and debt versus earnings roughly halved.

Marston's has said annual profit is expected to beat market expectations, The Morning Advertiser reports. The group, which runs more than 1,300 pubs, guided profit before tax excluding one-off costs for the 52 weeks to 26 September 2026 above the top end of consensus.

The trading picture - Profits more than three times the FY2023 level after a third consecutive year of significant growth - 60 pub format conversions completed in 2026; at least 100 planned for 2027, weighted to Grandstand - Grandstand investments made in FY2026 delivered around 30% sales growth versus pre-investment levels - Full-year like-for-like sales −1.2%; fourth-quarter like-for-like broadly flat, helped by new formats, stronger summer trading and the World Cup - Operating margin improved; debt compared with earnings now broadly half the FY2023 level

Chief executive Justin Platt said the business had delivered significant profit growth, margin improvements and strong recurring free cash flow, and that differentiated formats continue to drive returns. Full-year results are due on 24 November 2026.

What it means for operators Format conversion is doing the heavy lifting while headline LFL stays slightly soft. For groups watching capital allocation, Marston's is showing that a repeatable site playbook (Grandstand) can lift sales ~30% and still leave room to cut leverage — the full numbers on 24 November will show how sustainable that margin is into a quieter winter.
