B&B HOTELS closes Manchester Sportcity for a full refurb — and keeps every job
The Sportcity hotel will shut until early 2027 for a multimillion-pound upgrade of every bedroom and the ground floor. All team members stay on.

B&B HOTELS is putting its Manchester Sportcity hotel through a multimillion-pound refurbishment and will close the site until early 2027, Insider Media reports. Every job is being retained while the work is done.
The hotel joined the B&B portfolio in April after trading as an independent. The original plan was to upgrade floor by floor while staying open. The brand has now chosen a full temporary close so the work finishes faster and the reopening matches the UK house standard in one go.
What is changing - Every bedroom: new beds and furniture - All public areas refreshed - Ground floor reimagined as a place to gather, with a new restaurant serving light bites and pizzas through the day and evening - Guests with existing bookings have been contacted directly
Dawn Lister, head of UK sales, said closing for a short period lets the team finish faster to the standard guests expect, and that keeping everyone in post mattered.
So what on your next shift A full-site close can sound like bad news until you hear the jobs line. If your site ever faces a similar pause, the useful questions for the team are simple: who confirms rotas and pay during the works, where do you report if you are redeployed, and how do guests with bookings get a clear answer. Sportcity's message is that retention was locked in before the doors shut — that is the bit worth repeating on the briefing.
