San Carlo Bottega, on the second floor of Selfridges overlooking Exchange Square, has had its first big change since it opened in 2013, the Manchester Evening News reports. The old pastel blues are gone, replaced by warm terracotta booths, graphic print bucket seats and statement chandeliers, in a palette of ochres, terracotta and deep moss greens.

The art In-house art curator Katie Forrester has brought together portraits and contemporary pieces by local artists, including Vincent Spain, Connie Celeste, Oliver Gaiger, Constance Anne, IAMBOB.the.ARTIST, Daisy Fulton and Suzanne Bethell.

What to order There's a new autumn and winter menu, with some dishes finished at the table. Look out for a pumpkin risotto finished in a pecorino wheel and topped with black truffle, and beef cheek with creamy mash, red wine jus and salsa verde.

Good to know - Second floor of Selfridges, Exchange Square - A handy stop for lunch or a cocktail if you're in town Christmas shopping
