Sunderland-born George Clarke, of The Restoration Man and Amazing Spaces, has picked out Pure Knead Bakery as one of his favourites, ChronicleLive reports.

What he said Sharing a photo of a counter packed with bakes, he wrote: "One of the best bakeries I've ever been in. The produce is OUTSTANDING! The bread is the best!" He also gave a shout-out to the bakers who start at 3am and the 27 people who make and sell the food across the three shops.

What to try His followers backed him up on the sourdough: one called it the best sourdough in the North East; another said they'd driven up from Teesside for a loaf.

Where to find it Three shops: Gosforth, Whitley Bay, and the newest on Dean Street in Newcastle city centre.
