Plaza returns to Tynemouth - as a bar and kitchen with a sea view
The brothers behind Surfers are bringing a new bar, restaurant and garden to the Palace Buildings, alongside a second Eatflix 5D cinema, in time for Christmas.

The Plaza name is coming back to the Tynemouth seafront, Chronicle Live reports. Brothers Joe and Ollie Brack, who already run Surfers next door, are opening Plaza, a bar and kitchen with a side garden in the Palace Buildings overlooking Longsands beach.
It will sit beside their second Eatflix, the eat-along 5D cinema that started in Heaton. Tickets for its Home Alone screenings are already being snapped up.
Why the name matters The original Plaza stood nearby and was, over the years, an aquarium, a toy museum and the Beachcomber nightclub, before fire destroyed it in 1996. Joe told Chronicle Live the new venue is a nod to a name that holds a lot of history on the coast, for locals who remember it and newcomers alike.
What to expect - An intimate bar and kitchen with a side garden - Cocktails and what the team calls a brand new style of menu - Laid-back evenings looking out over the North Sea
Both venues are due to open before Christmas, and the team says work is going on flat out to hit that. Plaza's Instagram is already live if you want first word on the opening date.
