Golden Union in Soho is one of 10 chippies in the running for Restaurant of the Year at the National Fish & Chip Awards, Secret London reports. It's the only London restaurant on the list.

The award, run by the National Federation of Fish Friers, is for sit-down restaurants that deliver great food, strong hospitality and a memorable dine-in experience. Golden Union is known for responsibly sourced fish, friendly service and fair prices.

The full shortlist - Chesters at Vale, Chesterfield - Lakeside Fish & Chips, Poole - Harbour Fish Bar, Folkestone - Golden Union, London - No1 Cromer, Norfolk - The Cod's Scallops, Nottingham - Ocean Fish Platter, Ipswich - Saltwater Fish & Chips, Felixstowe - Whitby's Restaurant & Takeaway, Rotherham - The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack, South Queensferry

The 10 will be cut to five later in the year, and the winner is named at a ceremony in London on 24 February 2027. Federation president Andrew Crook said the shortlisted restaurants offer the next generation real routes into kitchen skills, customer service and management.

Worth knowing: you don't need the seaside for a proper fish supper. Soho has one in the national top 10.
