Macellaio RC becomes Casa Macellaio in South Kensington

Roberto Costa has relaunched his original UK restaurant as a more relaxed Genoa-inspired osteria, with Italian wines only and mains such as Lake District beef tagliata.

Roberto Costa has turned his original Macellaio RC in South Kensington into Casa Macellaio, Restaurant Online reports. The new osteria-inspired room draws on his family's restaurant near Genoa and is pitched as a more relaxed, Mediterranean-spirited kitchen. It launched on 12 October.

Executive chef Edoardo Ferrera's menu leans on simple Italian cooking with an eye on affordability. Starters include carpaccio with Cetara anchovies and beef and bone marrow steak tartare. Pasta runs from tagliatelle with white ragu, cream and truffle to seafood spaghetti al cartoccio. Mains include Lake District beef tagliata alla bismarck and charcoal-grilled cod with lemon, garlic and rosemary.

The room and the list - Two floors with wood accents, ivory tones and a charcuterie counter - An exclusively Italian wine list - Cocktails including a Venetian negroni with Select in place of Campari, plus a negroni sbagliato and a boulevardier

Costa opened the South Kensington site in October 2012 as his UK debut. He has also recently launched God Save The Pizza in Exmouth Market, with Roman-style sourdough bases.

If you knew the old Macellaio RC as a butchery-led steak room, Casa Macellaio is the same address with a softer osteria brief and a flatter path into pasta and shared plates.
