The appointments - Wells & Co: non-executive director - Chickpea Group: chair of the south-west operator
His track record George has more than 30 years in hospitality leadership. At Laine he built the business to more than 60 sites across Brighton, London and Birmingham, alongside a 20,000-hectolitre brewery. He stepped down as chief executive in 2024 and has since focused on advisory and non-executive work.
What it means for operators Both groups are bringing in someone who has scaled a pub estate and run a brewery alongside it. For founder-led groups weighing their next phase, an experienced chair or non-executive is a way to add that know-how to the board without growing the executive team.
