The four-floor Cloth Market bar shut on 26 September after eight years. Its owner is reopening the site as an après-ski party bar in December.

One of Newcastle's biggest late bars is changing format under the same owner. Revolución de Cuba on the Cloth Market closed on Saturday 26 September, eight years after opening on the old Destiny nightclub site, ChronicleLive reports. Owner NEOS Hospitality is converting it into Barbara's Bier Haus, which it plans to open in December.

Barbara's already trades in Birmingham, Bristol and Southampton. The format is entertainment-led: dancing bartenders in lederhosen, shot skis, themed DJs, a karaoke room, live music, a gondola ski lift and disco toilets, with beer and cocktail towers, sharing pizzas and wursts. NEOS chief executive Russell Quelch said the concept was a great fit for the city's love of a big night out.

The closure followed other Revs de Cuba closures around the country this year. Customers with bookings are being contacted, and long-running promoter Platform47 hosted the final night.

For your venue: a big new themed bar lands in the Bigg Market and Cloth Market area just as Christmas party bookings peak. If you run a late bar nearby, expect a push for groups, office parties and brunch-style packages from December. Get your own Christmas offer out early and make the booking easy.
