99p noodles on Tuesday 6 October, plus a slurping contest in Gateshead

Noodles for under a quid. Chopstix is celebrating National Noodle Day on Tuesday 6 October with 99p noodles in participating shops from 11am until close, one day only, and its Newcastle and Gateshead Trinity branches are taking part, according to the brand's announcement and ChronicleLive.

There's a contest too. From 11am to 3pm outside Gateshead Trinity, Chopstix is looking for the UK's loudest noodle slurper. You get 20 seconds, a decibel meter measures you, and the winner takes home a medal and £500 of Chopstix Flave Points to spend in its shops. Yes, you're actively encouraged to be loud.

The Metrocentre is next. Billboards have gone up for a new Chopstix at the Metrocentre, alongside Nando's, Zizzi, Wagamama, TGI Fridays and Ask. Its opening date hasn't been announced, but it will also do a 99p box of noodles with one topping from 11am to 3pm on launch day.

Before you go: the deal is in "participating stores", so check your nearest branch's page or socials first. And if you're entering the slurp-off, maybe don't wear white.
