Mr Whippy on Your Chips - meet the minds behind Manchester's ragebait food
Chocolate doners, ice cream fries and choc-dipped chicken burgers. It's deliberate, and it's working.

You've definitely doomscrolled past one of these and got properly wound up. The Manchester Evening News tracked down the people behind the city's most rage-inducing food posts, and the short answer to the obvious question is that it gets people through the door.
Rounders, a halal fast food chain with sites in Chorlton, Stockport and Urmston, posted Mr Whippy Loaded Fries, which racked up more than two million views across TikTok and Instagram along with a lot of furious comments. The twist is that it isn't actually on the menu, but people came in and ordered it anyway. Great British Doner made a chocolate doner kebab, though its marketing lead Jessica Tee says the vegan doner gets far more hate. In Oldham, Burger Eats went viral with a chocolate-covered chicken burger. The marketer behind it says the plan was to make something people "love to hate", and his first customers were six lads who drove up from Birmingham.
It's a cut-throat scene. Public Health England data puts Manchester fifth in the country with 183 fast food outlets per 100,000 people.
So what for hospo people? Ragebait gets the clicks, but the burger guy says it himself: the food comes first and the marketing second. The algorithm gets them in the door once. It's you on the counter and in the kitchen who get them coming back.
