Admiral Taverns has acquired Mountain Pub Company from investment manager Downing, The Morning Advertiser reports. The deal value was not disclosed.

The estate Mountain runs 10 wet-led, operator-managed community pubs across the north of England, including The Engine Room in Bingley, The Principal in Kendal, Frenchmans Cove in Blackpool, The Southport Coaster, The Cyclist in New Ferry, The Kestrel in Barnsley, Bird in Hand in Leek, The White Hart in Todmorden, Lottie Dod in Moreton and Pride of Shipley.

The business was launched in November 2022 by Helen Standing, who previously helped build Craft Union for Ei Group and co-founded Vixen Pubs. After completion, the pubs move into Admiral's Proper Pubs division, led by Nathan Wall, which already operates 245 wet-led community pubs in England, Scotland and Wales.

Admiral chief executive Chris Jowsey said the deal strengthens the group's footprint of affordable community pubs. Standing said Mountain's model mixed local entrepreneurship with central standards and support.

What it means for operators: another northern wet-led portfolio is consolidating under a backed landlord. Nearby freehouses should expect sharper competition on beer range, sport and price; licensees watching for managed-partner routes now have a clearer picture of who is buying.
