£1,000 and your cocktail at The Open: Ben Lomond's contest closes on 12 October

The gin brand wants a St Andrews-inspired drink for next July's championship, and UK bartenders and home cocktail makers can both enter.

Fancy seeing a drink you made up served to thousands of golf fans? Ben Lomond, the official gin of The Open, is looking for the official serve of next year's championship, The Spirits Business reports. (A serve is just the signature drink and how it's presented.)

The 155th Open is at St Andrews, the home of golf, from 11 to 18 July 2027, so your drink needs to be inspired by the Old Course there.

How to enter - Submit a recipe, a method and a name for your drink on Ben Lomond's website - Entries close on Monday 12 October - It's open to professional bartenders and amateur home cocktail makers in the UK - Qualifiers go to a final at Loch Lomond Group's Luss Distillery on 3 November

What the winner gets: their cocktail served at The Open, £1,000, a Ben Lomond Gin hamper, two VIP hospitality tickets to the 155th Open, and a place with the brand at the championship as an ambassador.

The last winner was Branford Edgar of Kelvingrove Café in Glasgow, whose Solstice Sling was served to spectators at Royal Birkdale in July. The brand says you don't need to be an expert mixologist: it wants great flavour and a good story behind the drink.

Try this on your next shift: jot down two or three ideas, then get your team to taste them on a quiet night. There's a week to go, so start now.
