Ten days of cheap cocktails, and it's already started. Newcastle Cocktail Week runs from Friday 2 October to closing on Sunday 11 October, and this autumn's line-up is its biggest yet, with around 55 bars and restaurants taking part, according to the organisers and ChronicleLive.

How it works

  1. Buy a wristband online from the official Newcastle Cocktail Week site.
  2. Collect it from The Alchemist in Grey's Quarter (12pm to 8pm every day) or Manahatta on Collingwood Street (4pm to 8.30pm Wednesday to Friday, 12pm to 8.30pm at weekends). You get a printed guide with it.
  3. Show it at any participating venue for signature cocktails from £5, plus other drink and food deals at some of them. You can use it as often as you like across the ten days.

The list runs from Vampire Rabbit, Pilgrim, Dobson & Parnell and Blackfriars to The Botanist, Flight Club, Lane 7 and Bealim House. One original venue, Revolución de Cuba, has since closed.

Plan it: pick a street and work along it. Collingwood Street, Grey Street and the Quayside all have a few venues close together, so you can try three bars without needing a taxi.
